But what is the uniqueness of these dogs and what should future owners know about them?

Breed origin

Similar dogs were bred at the beginning of the 17th century for the needs of the indigenous Yakut peoples. Their homeland is considered Nizhnekolymsky district of Yakutia. The dogs participated in hunting for deer, and also harnessed to a sledge. The first person from the outside who showed interest in the Yakut likes was the researcher Yokhelson, who began his work in the early 19th century.

Unfortunately, at a certain period the breed was on the verge of extinction, but thanks to Vladimir Dyachkov and Herman Arbugaev, it was possible to restore it at the end of the 20th century. A few years later, the Yakut huskies received recognition from the RKF, at the same time the breed standard was approved. Laika from Yakutia is a strong, muscular animal with a downed body, but at the same time compact, with high legs. Outwardly, the dog of this breed looks quite massive, but without the “dampness” in the build. The representatives of the breed clearly traced gender - males are larger, broader and more dorky individuals. Bitches also have a mild expression of the muzzle. However, stubbornness and love of freedom are traits that do not depend on the sex of the husky.

Growing males can be from 55 to 59 cm, females do not exceed 57 cm. Body weight of dogs - 20-23 kg. But when evaluating dogs, more attention is paid to their proportions, rather than to individual qualities. Inexperienced people may confuse the Yakut husky with a husky or Malamute, but professionals point out a number of differences - the Yakuts have greater physical strength, they do not have the same kind of husky eyes, and differently put tail.

The Husky is a breed intended for riding, and the Yakut Laika, although used for these purposes, is still more a hunting breed. The standard specifies the following description of the representatives of the breed:

The lips are medium stretched, not thin, but not fleshy, pigmented with the same color as the nose. The lobe is wide, large, colored black or brown. The eyes are medium in size, almond-shaped, expressive, with close fitting eyelids, a look interested, attentive. Iris brown or blue tint. the standard allowed disagreement is heterochromia. Auricles are large, harsh, have the shape of a triangle, the tips are rounded.
Torso . Yakut Laika is folded proportionally, characterized by a strong, well-built body. The neck is long, thick, the neck is well defined. The chest has a good volume, length and depth, round ribs. The withers can be called massive, the back is wide and strong, the loin is shortened. The croup is powerful, with medium-sized shoulder blades and muscled shoulders.

Dogs of this breed molt 1-2 times a year, and during these periods it is recommended to scratch the pet more often, saving him from dead hair and eliminating the possibility of hair rolling into mats. The rest of the time, this procedure is not recommended for likes, of course, if the pet does not have to participate in exhibitions.

It is possible to bathe a dog 1-2 times a year, in winter their wool is cleaned with the help of snow. As for other hygiene procedures, everything is standard here:

Huskies feel best in cold climates. They are not suitable for apartment maintenance, as in the summer the dog will suffer from the heat.
