History of origin

At the beginning of the XXI zootekhnik Lakatosh Yu.A. with his team decided to bring a new breed of dogs. The basis was taken by the Yorkers and Shitsu. The full list of breeds that participated in the crossing has not yet been announced, since the work is still underway and it is not known which lines will be saved or culled. As a result of marketing and statistical research, the author developed the breed project. A Russian saloon dog was created by the method of scientifically grounded and fairly complex reproductive crossing, in which representatives of several miniature breeds participated. At the very beginning of the crossing, for example, the long-haired toy terriers of red color were involved.

While breeding breed occurs within the group. Over the past 8 years since the beginning of the experiment, 5 generations of mermaids have been received. However, the most successful representatives of 2-4 generations are used in breeding. The pre-pedigree group continues to improve. Although the breed standard was adopted in 2013, it also continues to change.

Breed description Russian saloon dog

When planning a new breed Lakatosh Yu.A. drew attention to a number of external differences between mermaids and other decorative breeds. The main work was carried out according to the following criteria:

  • miniature size;
  • golden (various shades of red) coat color;
  • the presence of braudiness - decorating hair on the face in the form of a mustache, beard, bangs;
  • special structure and length of wool;
  • erect ears.

But since each gene responsible for a particular trait is linked to others, then, along with the main traits, as a result of crossing, minor ones also appear, which also become fixed and determine the breed differences. In the Russian salon dog, such minor differences from the breeds that have “infused” their blood are:

  • more rounded skull and shortened muzzle;
  • more developed and volumetric skeleton;
  • shorter legs.

The combination of these differences gives grounds to call the mermaids a new breed. The breed standard describes the exterior of dogs as follows:

  1. The skull is round, not very wide. The forehead is high, the muzzle is shortened (it is 1/3 of the length of the skull), the superciliary arches are imperceptible, the cheekbones are flat, the occiput is smoothed.
  2. The transition from the frontal part of the skull to the nose (stop) is strongly pronounced. In the area of the foot there is a longitudinal groove. The back of the nose is pronounced, straight, smooth - without folds and creases.
  3. Nose medium width, ends with a small rounded mirror, shiny and moist. Pigmentation is solid, black is welcomed, but light brightening is also allowed - brown or dark gray. Light solid color is permissible, but not welcome.
  4. The muzzle is elegant, but not excessively thin, with a good filling of the natural depressions of the facial part of the skull, narrowing somewhat towards the tip of the nose. Russian saloon dog breed description
  5. Well developed lower jaw has an average size. Lips completely cover the teeth, closed along the entire length, tightly to the teeth. They are of medium thickness, without excessive looseness.
  6. Teeth white, medium-sized, full set. Scissor bite, but also pincer-shaped. The closure of the lower and upper incisors is complete, but with age we assume a slight undershot mouth.
  7. The eyes are small, widely spaced, slightly protruding. The color of the iris is dark. Light eyes are not desirable. Eyelids dry, well adjacent to the eyeball. The edge of the century pigmented black or in color tone.
  8. The ears are small, triangular, erect. The tip of the auricle is sharp. To emphasize its shape, the fringe of hair in the upper third of the auricle is clipped. The ear cartilage is of medium density and keeps its shape well.
  9. The neck is set high, proudly bears the head. It is of medium thickness, smoothly passing into the shoulders. The skin is tight, without forming folds and dewlap. The withers are pronounced and protruding above the level of the back.
  10. The body is compact, somewhat stretched, but excessive elongation is not welcome. The line of the back is clear and even. The back has a good muscular layer. In the loins it is slightly rounded, a smooth sloping transition to the tail is noticeable.
  11. Belly picked up. The skin on the belly is thin, tight.
  12. Chest oval with good muscles, deep. The chest bone is pronounced. False ribs well developed.
  13. Limbs of medium length. The dog looks squat, but not too much.
  14. The front and rear limbs are flat, parallel to each other. Elbow joints are directed back. The corners of the hind limbs srednevyrazhen.
  15. Paws are oval, arched. The paw pads and claws are colored dark or have a pigmentation to match the color.
  16. The crescent-shaped tail is high or medium set. In the rack rises above the level of the back. In the relaxed state is lowered below the back. Allowed to stop at 1/3.

Mermaid folded proportionally, harmoniously. There are two growth lines - the average height of miniature mermaids is 18-23 cm, and larger specimens - up to 28 cm. Weight varies from 1.8 kg to 3.5-4 kg. Mermaid moves easily, freely, straightforward.

Wool and colors

The coat is long, straight, sometimes with a slight waviness, of equal length over the whole body. On the body forms a parting along the spine. On the face long strands form a mustache and a beard. Long bangs are recommended to stab so that it does not limit the review.

Dogs on the tail may have darker tips. The undercoat is practically absent. The coat is shiny, but not silk. In terms of bulkiness and fluffiness is something between a shitsu's hair and a Chinese downy crested dog.

Preference is given to different shades of red:

  • red;
  • cognac;
  • ginger
  • wheat;
  • pale yellow
  • light fawn (white gold);
  • golden.

It is desirable that the color of the wool was uniform, saturated. But the presence of a mask on the face, darker hair on the tail. Sable color is not welcome when the tips of the spines are darker than the base.

There is also a spotted color - white spots in the form of grooves on the muzzle or "socks", "shirt-front." Often, the white color "captures" the entire surface of the body, leaving small spots of red color. Young mermaids may have a predominance of dark-colored dogs, but after 1.5 years the color becomes much brighter and more even.

When breeding dogs with such a sunny warm color, first of all they thought not only about the aesthetic side, but also about the practical one. Care for white-haired dogs, for example, requires special manipulations - bleaching and frequent bathing, which causes problems for the owners and causes discomfort to the dog.

Character

Since the Russian salon dog is, above all, a companion, the main features of its character are:

  • non-conflict;
  • livable with other pets;
  • cleanliness;
  • “Non-volatility” - the dog gives a voice if necessary.

The playboy is a cheerful, life-giving dog with a flexible and accommodating character. She is obedient and devoted to the owners. He likes close contact - stroking, games. With pleasure communicates with children. They are playful, cheerful, sociable. Mermaids easily carry transportation, travel and are ready to always accompany their owners. Russian saloon dog lies

When creating the character of a mermaid, the “Eastern” type was taken as a model - discreet, balanced, docile, inert and affectionate. Pets smart, well feel the mood of the owner. The dogs are very individual, with their own character.

Training

There is no data on the ability to train Russian saloon dogs, but, like any decorative breed, they need to be educated and trained. Even the smallest dog, in the absence of upbringing, can become a problem and show nasty character traits. Of course, the kids do not need skills that are important for service or hunting dogs, but they must master and execute the obligatory minimum of commands.

It is necessary to start training from early childhood in order to immediately implant the rules of behavior to the puppy, to reinforce the concepts of “good” and “bad”. The minimum amount of teams you can train yourself, but it is better to visit a professional to get the necessary advice and learn the tricks of dressing.

Care and health

The long silky hair of the little mermaids requires careful care. It does not shed, so it does not require daily combing in order to remove dead hair. But, so that the fur glistened, was not confused and beautifully fell, it should be washed using a special shampoo for long-haired breeds.

After drying, apply conditioner to give the hairs shine, strength, protect from electrification and tangling. So that the wool does not thin and dim, you need to wash the dog as it gets dirty - usually once every 2-3 weeks. The coat on the face needs to be washed after each meal.

Particular attention should be paid to grooming the dog at the age of 9-12 months. When changing children's wool for an adult, it becomes tangled and forms mats faster than in adult dogs. The frequency of combing depends on the quality and type of mermaid's wool. It varies from daily to 1-2 times per week.

You need to comb the little mermaid with a comb with long teeth of natural material in order not to damage the wool. A professional and owner with long hair care experience can use a brush with natural bristles. Russian saloon dogs

To facilitate combing, the hair should be slightly moistened with water or conditioner. Particular attention should be paid to the area around the ears, muzzle, on the inside of the paws, on the stomach.

For the convenience of the owners and the doggy standard different types of haircuts are allowed:

  • general grooming, in which the hair freely falls “to the floor”, but the “hairstyle” should not interfere with the movements of the animal;
  • "Square" in which the hair is cut at the bottom of the dog's face;
  • "Sports" in which the head is made in the form of a ball, and the body is cut short.

The strand between the ears is left natural and stabbed with decorative hairpins or fancy hair bands.

Mermaid erect ears do not require special care. In the upper part of the auricle, wool is clipped to reveal the shape of the ear. Enough ears regularly inspect and clean every 1-2 weeks. Eyes wipe with wet swabs. Claws trimmed as they grow. To prevent the accumulation of plaque and the formation of stone, you should regularly brush the little mermaid's teeth.

You should also conduct an inspection and prevention of mermaids from external and internal parasites. Insecticides need to pick up such that there is no intoxication of the animal, and the blood-sucking insects died. To dog lived for a long time, it is necessary to carry out routine vaccinations and regular veterinary examinations.

Diseases

Little Mermaids - dogs with good health, high immunity and lack of a tendency to allergic reactions. The breed is bred in such a way that the resulting dogs do not have diseases of the breed characteristic of progenitors.

Feeding

To maintain health and ensure the growth and development of the little mermaids, they need a balanced diet. You can use both natural food and ready-made feed of the highest class. It is recommended to feed the little mermaid at the same time, avoiding feeding, especially from the table, and overly indulging with sweets. Russian saloon dog (mermaid)

The frequency of feeding depends on the age of the dog and varies from 1 to 3 times per day. Breeders and veterinarians do not recommend the introduction of legumes and fatty meats into the diet of Russian saloon dogs. It is strictly forbidden to give pets tubular bones.

Content

Russian saloon dogs do not have high activity, and therefore do not require frequent walking. They can be taught to walk on a hygienic diaper or in a tray. In the apartment they behave decently, they are not naughty, which greatly facilitates their maintenance.

For a dog you need to equip your own bed, located in a quiet place, protected from drafts. Some owners of these beautiful dogs note the traits of the owner in the character, which requires the allocation of individual toys, feeding bowls and respect for territoriality.

If you take the mermaid for a walk, you need to do it on a leash so that the little dogs are not injured by the big dogs.
