History of origin

The history of creating the Moscow dragon breed is only 29 years old. In the late 80s of the last century, the zoo engineer Zoya Kostyna picked up a puppy on the street, from which a pretty dog grew up with a peculiar structure and location of the main hair of the coat. The puppy bitch Kari (given the name given because of the brown color of the coat) that had reached sexual maturity was mated with a dog with the same structure of the coat. Micron, too, found on the street. Moscow dragon read article

As a result of mating, we received 4 puppies with a characteristic appearance for parents and a variety of colors. The specialist was interested in these aboriginal dogs, and she decided to fix the phenotype and create a separate breed.

For breeding dogs were used with characteristic features, which, as it turned out, were widely distributed in Moscow and the Moscow region. To consolidate the phenotype, not only crossing was used, but also inbreeding (closely related crossing). The resulting inbreeding bitch Yana had a slightly different coat structure. But upon closer inspection, it turned out that the “fluffiness” was betrayed not by a shirt, but by a long undercoat.

After 10 years from the start of breeding, a sufficient population of dogs with a fixed phenotype was obtained to formulate and adopt a breed standard. The Moscow dragon was assigned to the V class of breeds according to the classification of the Russian Cynological Federation in section 6 - primitive breeds. The Moscow dragon is not recognized by FCI.

  6. Ears are thin, long with a narrow base. High set, stand-up or semi-standing. Preference is given to erect ears.
  7. The neck is elegant, without dewlap, set high, withers almost imperceptible.
  8. The back is straight, with well developed muscles. In the lumbar region, the back is somewhat arched.
  9. The oval-shaped chest, clearly expressed, does not reach the elbow joints in the lower part. The brisket is well defined, false edges visible.
  10. The torso is compact, dry with a developed, but not distinguished musculature. The stomach is tucked up, but does not have an explosion. The torso is longer than high.
  11. Tail set high. The shape varies from coiled to saber. The dog holds him above the back or throws him on his back.
  12. Limbs dry, straight. The rear are wider than the front. They have distinct angles of articulations. The corners of the elbow joints are directed back. Pasterns almost sheer.
  13. Paw is rounded, with tightly closed toes, arched.

Wool coat and colors

The coat is rather stiff, straight or broken. The dog fits snugly to the surface of the body. The length is different in different parts of the body - on the sides and abdomen shorter, on the back and head - longer. Long spines of the shirt form a kind of comb along the spine, and around the neck it forms a clutch. Longer hair and dragon tail.

On the head, the restroom hair forms a rare beard, mustache and crest. The undercoat can be short. Then the seldom-placed hard hounds give the dog a “disheveled” look. In varieties with a long undercoat, the overall appearance of the shirt and decorating hair is retained, but the thick long undercoat gives "fluffiness".

The disqualifying sign is considered to be the absence of latrine hair, bald spots on the head, too thick and long beard, mustache and tuft. Long thick hair on the limbs is not allowed.

Colors, which in turn is typical for primitive rocks, vary widely, but preference is given to solid:

  • ginger;
  • sable
  • brown;
  • black
  • blue.

The Moscow dragons of black and tan, black-clawed, wolf-colored are described. A change in the standard is expected soon. It is assumed that the resolution will be entered on the spotty color.

Character

The Moscow dragon is a great companion due to the docile, peace-loving nature of the dog. Whelping good "friends" with all the inhabitants of the apartment. Distrust and alertness of the whelps can show to dogs, but breeders of this breed show that their pets get along well with representatives of large breeds and with decorative dogs.

They have no hunting instinct, so they get along with various pets - cats, rodents, birds and reptiles. Beautiful Moscow dragon

Dragons have a sociable, cheerful character. Unlike many representatives of decorative rocks, they are not hysterical, they do not bark for no reason, which indicates a stable nervous system.

In whelps, bright, distinctive character. They are with love and devotion to the owners, but they do not get bored, do not require increased attention or care. These little dogs are distinguished by courage, autonomy, ingenuity.

Sometimes dragons aggressively treat other people's dogs, and they do not pay attention to the size of the enemy. There is some caution, caution in relation to strangers.

Dragon training

The Moscow dragon is perfectly trainable, thanks to the natural intelligence and ability to make decisions. Good physical condition allows dragons to take part in agility and handling in the class of decorative dogs.

Dogs are willing to train and are not even inferior to large dogs in the performance of tasks. Some limitations in the development of simulators and overcoming an obstacle course are imposed only by the size of the Moscow dragon.

The “noble” roots of the little dragon are manifested in independent behavior and a desire to lead, therefore it is necessary to start training and raising as early as possible so that these traits do not become negative. Early training will develop dog obedience and make it a favorite of all family members.

Training is especially successful if the natural skills of the animal are used, and training is conducted with encouragement in the form of praise, affection or some goodies.

Care and health

Due to the fact that the breed is derived on the basis of native and domestic dogs, care of the dragon is minimal. In order for the dog to live a long life and to please its owners for up to 10 years, it is necessary to do all the planned vaccinations, regularly conduct an inspection. The rest - the standard care of a dog will be quite sufficient.

It is necessary to monitor the purity and condition of the eyes, teeth and ears. Claws trimmed as they grow. Hair care is also not required. Bathe the whelp as the wool is contaminated. For bathing use special shampoos, giving abundant foam, to effectively clean the wool. After bathing, the dog is wrapped in a towel, blotted with water, and allowed to dry out naturally. Little dragons do not need a haircut. Even the specimens participating in the show demonstrate natural "ruffled". Although some owners prefer to slightly trim the adorning hair on the face, so that they do not climb into the eyes and mouth.

Just like most of the primitive breeds, the Moscow dragon has good health, is unpretentious in content, does not require special care, but all this does not mean that the dog can be “abandoned” - left to itself.

Breed diseases

Thanks to the "street" hardening and the presence of a large number of primitive signs, the Moscow dragon has good health and high adaptability to the weather conditions of a given geographic area. Due to the fact that cultural selection is carried out recently, the whelps did not have time to acquire breed diseases and do not have new mutations fixed by artificial selection.

Characteristic of primitive breeds is low productivity, which resulted in a small number of representatives of the breed. Bitch brings so many puppies, which can feed in the wild.

Due to the natural selection of Moscow dragons, resistance to external factors and diseases has been consolidated. They do not have an allergic reaction, they have a high immunity, which allows you to successfully transfer the bites of blood-sucking insects and resist the diseases that they suffer. In dogs of the Moscow dragon breed, tolerance to ticks, fleas, and helminths has developed.

Feeding

Like all primitive and aboriginal dogs, the Moscow dragon is not picky about food. In addition, he eats a little, since the digestion process is more productive for him than for artificially bred breeds.

With natural feeding in the diet of the whelp should be present:

  • meat and offal;
  • porridges;
  • vegetables and greens.

Whelping representatives are not selective in food, they will be equally happy to eat food that their owners eat and dry food. They need clean water, which in sufficient quantities is freely available.

But, despite the dragon drama unpretentiousness, attention should be paid to the pet's diet. In order for it to develop and grow properly, it is necessary that the food be balanced and contain the necessary amount of useful minerals. Cute Moscow dragon

Therefore, with natural feeding, it is necessary to select the appropriate vitamin-mineral complex, complementing the daily rate of vitamins, micro-and macronutrients. If the owner chose ready-made production rations, fertilizing with vitamins is not necessary, since premium and super premium class dry foods contain them in sufficient quantities.

Dog content

The Moscow dragon perfectly got accustomed in urban environments. The little dragon is not inclined to make noise, to behave disgracefully, to run around the apartment, so it is very convenient and simple to keep it to owners of different ages and even in the complete absence of experience.

He can live in a small apartment, tolerates loneliness, even busy people can afford it. Dragon tolerates heat and cold, so you can go for a walk with it in any weather and temperature.

At home, it is enough to arrange a dog with its own couch, although this does not require it. Dogs guard their territory and, in order to avoid conflicts with other pets, it is better to provide the dragon with its own sleeping place.

On walks dragon you need to display 2-3 times a day. The duration of the walk he sets himself. Sometimes he needs a long stay in the fresh air, and sometimes he is limited to the time required only for the administration of natural needs.

It is better to walk with this kid keeping him on a leash so that he does not conflict with large dogs. Despite the average level of activity, it is worth paying attention not only to walks, but also to occupations and trainings. Moscow dragon will seek victories, happy to participate in competitions, so do not deprive him of this type of activity.
