The Moscow dragon is not yet a fully formed breed, rather it is, by definition of MN Sotskaya, a "breed group". The breeding of these decorative dogs was recently undertaken, and the breed standards are still changing, supplemented. But the fact that the Moscow dragon - a very interesting dog, with an original and unique appearance - it can be seen today. A tiny dog, reminiscent of the ancient Chinese dragon, gradually conquers the love of Russians and fame outside the homeland.

History of origin
The history of the creation of the breed Moscow dragon has only 29 years. In the late 80's of the last century Zoo Kostyna, an animal engineer, picked up a puppy from the street, from which a pretty dog with a peculiar structure and arrangement of the main hair of the woolen coat grew. Sexually mature female Kari (nicknamed due to the brown color of the coat) was mated with a male with the same structure of wool cover. Micron was also found on the street.
As a result, the matings received 4 puppies with a characteristic for the parents appearance and a variety of colors. The specialist was interested in these aboriginal dogs, and she decided to fix the phenotype and create a separate breed.
For breeding, dogs with characteristic features were used, which, as it turned out, were widespread in Moscow and the Moscow region. For fixing the phenotype, not only crossing was used, but inbreeding (closely related crossing). The resultant inbreeding bitch, Jan, had a slightly different structure of woolen cover. But on closer inspection it turned out that "fluffy" betrayed not a shirt, but a long undercoat.
After 10 years from the beginning of breeding, a sufficient number of dogs with a fixed phenotype was obtained in order to formulate and adopt a breed standard. The Moscow dragon was classified in the V class of rocks according to the classification of the Russian Cynological Federation in section 6 - primitive rocks. The Moscow dragon is not recognized by the FCI.
Description of breed Moscow dragon
The Moscow dragon is a small, well proportioned dog. The height of the dragon at the withers does not exceed 20-30 cm, and the weight - 2-4 kg. Since the breed is still at the stage of formation, many external data on the standard have a wide scope:
- Skull round with slightly pronounced occipital mound. The dog's muzzle is slightly smaller than the cranium. The line of transition from forehead to nose has a pronounced bend. The "face" part is full, has no appreciable depressions. The cheek bones are embossed, convex. The chin protrusion is clearly visible.
- Lips in a medium-sized dog, not damp, fit tightly to the teeth, closed all over, black.
- Teeth of medium size, white, full dental formula. Bite scissors, lower incisors extend beyond the upper row by no more than 0.5 cm.
- The tip of the nose has open nostrils, expressed. The color of the mirror depends on the color.
- Eyes of medium size, oval, widely spaced. The color of the iris depends on the main color and varies from dark to light brown. Eyelids closely fitting, pigmented in black.
- Ears are thin, long with a narrow base. Highly delivered, standing or semi-standing. Preference is given to stoating ears.
- Neck elegant, without suspension, high set, withers almost invisible.
- The back is straight, with well developed muscles. In the lumbar region, the back is slightly convex.
- Chest is oval in shape, clearly defined, in the lower part it does not reach the elbow joints. The thoracic bone is well defined, false ribs are noticeable.
- The body is compact, dry with developed, but not prominent musculature. The abdomen is pulled up, but has no undermining. The body is longer in length than in height.
- The tail is high. The shape varies from folded into a ring to saber-like. The dog holds it above his back or throws him on his back.
- The limbs are dry, straight. The rear are wider than the front ones. They have well-defined angles of articulations. The corners of the elbow joints are directed back. Pasterns almost vertical.
- The paw is rounded, with tightly closed fingers, arched.
Coat and colors
The wool is rather stiff, the awn is straight or with a fracture. Psovina tightly adheres to the surface of the trunk. The length varies on different parts of the body - on the sides and abdomen is shorter, on the back and head - longer. Along the spine, the long awns of the shirt form a kind of comb, and around the neck it forms a muff. A longer coat on the tail of the dragon.
On the head, the toilet of the hair forms a rare beard, a mustache and a tuft. Undercoat can be short. Then, rarely located hard psovin give the dog a "disheveled" look. In a variety with a long undercoat, the overall appearance of the shirt and the adorning hair is preserved, but the thick, long undercoat gives "fluffiness".
A disqualifying feature is the absence of hair-spats, bald spots on the head, too thick and long beard, mustache and tuft. Do not allow a long thick coat on the limbs.
Color, which in turn is characteristic of primitive rocks, varies widely, but preference is given to continuous:
Described Moscow dragons black and tan, cap, wolf color. A change in the standard is expected soon. It is assumed that a permit for spotted color will be introduced.
The Moscow dragon is a great companion, due to the complaisant, peace-loving nature of the dog. Drakonchiki well "friends" with all the inhabitants of the apartment. Distrust and alertness of dragons can show to dogs, but breeders of this breed testify that their pets perfectly get along with representatives of large breeds and with decorative dogs.
They do not have a hunting instinct, so they get along with various domestic pets - cats, rodents, birds and reptiles.
Drakonchiki have a sociable, cheerful character. Unlike many representatives of decorative rocks, they are not hysterical, do not bark for no reason, which indicates a stable nervous system.
The dragons have a bright, original character. They are loving and devoted to the owners, but they do not bother, they do not require special attention or concern for themselves. These little dogs are distinguished by courage, independence, ingenuity.
Sometimes dragons aggressively treat foreign dogs, and they do not pay attention to the size of the enemy. There is some suspicion, apprehension in relation to strangers.
The Moscow dragon is very amenable to training, thanks to the natural mind and ability to make decisions. Good physical condition allows dragons to participate in agility and handling in the class of decorative dogs.
Dogs willingly train and even not inferior to large dogs in the performance of tasks. Some restrictions in the development of simulators and overcoming the obstacle course are imposed only by the size of the Moscow dragon.
"Noble" roots of the dragon are manifested in independent behavior and desire to lead, therefore it is necessary to start training and education as early as possible so that these traits do not take on a negative color. Early training will develop obedience in the dog and make her a favorite for all family members.
Especially successful training, if the natural skills of the animal are used, and training is conducted with encouragement in the form of praise, affection or some delicious.
Care and health
Due to the fact that the breed is derived from aboriginal and domestic dogs, care for the dragon is minimal. In order for the dog to live a long life and up to 10 years pleased his owners, it is necessary to do all planned vaccinations, to regularly inspect. In the rest - the standard care for the dog will be quite sufficient.
It is necessary to monitor the cleanliness and condition of the eyes, teeth and ears. Claws cut as they grow. Care of the coat is also not required. Bathe the dragon as the coat becomes dirty. For bathing apply special shampoos, giving a plentiful foam to effectively clean the coat. After bathing, the dog is wrapped with a towel, promakivaet water and give the wool to dry naturally.
Dragons do not need a haircut. Even the specimens participating in the show demonstrate a natural "dishevelment". Although some masters prefer to shorten the hair decorating on the muzzle, so that they do not climb into the eyes and mouth.
Just like most primitive rocks, the Moscow dragon has good health, is unpretentious in its content, does not require special care, but all this does not mean that the dog can be "abandoned" - to give to itself.
Diseases of the breed
Thanks to "street" hardening and the presence of a large number of primitive signs, the Moscow dragon has strong health and high fitness for the weather conditions of this geographical area. Due to the fact that cultural selection is carried out recently, dragons did not manage to acquire pedigree diseases and do not have new mutations fixed by artificial selection.
Characteristic for primitive rocks is low productivity, which led to a small number of representatives of the breed. The bitch brings so many puppies that can feed in wild conditions.
Thanks to the natural selection of the Moscow dragons, resistance to external factors and diseases was fixed. They do not have an allergic reaction, they have high immunity, which allows them to successfully tolerate the bites of blood-sucking insects and resist the diseases that they suffer. Dogs of the Moscow dragon breed developed tolerance to mites, fleas, helminths.
Like all primitive and aboriginal dogs, the Moscow dragon is not picky about nutrition. In addition, he eats a little, because the process of digestion is more productive than that of artificially derived breeds.
With natural feeding in the diet of the dragon should be present:
- meat and offal;
- vegetables and greens.
Representatives of dragons are not selective in food, they will equally eat the food their masters eat, and dry food. They need clean water, which is in sufficient quantities to be freely available.
But, despite the unpretentiousness of the dragon, you should pay attention to the ration of the pet. So that it develops and grows right it is necessary that the food be balanced and contain the necessary amount of useful minerals.
Therefore, with natural feeding, it is necessary to select the appropriate vitamin-mineral complex, replenishing the daily norm of vitamins, micro- and macroelements. If the owner has stopped his choice on ready-made production rations, supplementation with vitamins is not needed, since dry feeds of premium and super-premium class contain them in sufficient quantity.
The Moscow dragon has perfectly got accustomed in city conditions. The dragon is not inclined to make noise, be outrageous, run around the apartment, so it is very convenient and simple to support the owners of different ages and even with complete lack of experience.
He can live in a small apartment, is well tolerated by loneliness, even busy people can afford it. The dragon well tolerates heat and cold, so you can go out with him in any weather and temperature.
At home it is enough to arrange a dog's own couch, although this does not require it. Dogs guard their territory and, in order to avoid conflicts with other pets, it is better to give the dragon his own bed.
The walks of the dragon should be taken 2-3 times a day. The length of the walk he will install himself. Sometimes he needs a long stay in the fresh air, and sometimes he is limited to the time necessary only for the departure of natural needs.
Walking with this baby is better keeping it on a leash so that it does not conflict with large dogs. Despite the average level of activity, it is worth paying attention not only to walks, but also to classes, trainings. The Moscow dragon will achieve victories, with pleasure to participate in competitions, therefore it is not necessary to deprive it of such kind of activity.

Where to buy a puppy
Breeders of Moscow noted the growing interest in this rare breed on the eve of the Dragon Year. Small dogs with exotic appearance are gaining popularity, but so far the demand exceeds supply. Despite the fact that on AVITO there are announcements about the sale of puppies at the price of 3000-3500 rubles, it is better to purchase a puppy in the nursery, where they are engaged in breeding by specialists.
Today only about 100 dogs possess a stable phenotype, so it is important to seriously approach the selection of a nursery in order to acquire a real pedigree pet.
