History of the origin of the breed
Scientists have not been able to fully explain the origin of this breed. But there is information that the first dogs came to the territory of England from the coast of Canada, more precisely the island of Newfoundland. Therefore, they were originally named after the name of the island and the city of the same name.
There are several theories of the origin of these dogs. According to one of them, they originated from Newfoundland dogs. But Dr. Woods suggests another version, according to which the formation of the breed took place on the island and the creation of the active participation of Basque and Viking dogs. Life on the island left its imprint on the habits of dogs. They are very fond of water and agree to work even on land, even in the water.
Fishermen of Newfoundend needed a four-footed helper - small, so that he could get into the boat independently and get out of it, equipped with water-repellent wool, with a developed search instinct and high efficiency.
At that time, two types of animals developed on the island - small Newfoundland dogs and large ones. Large dogs were used as draft force. But at the beginning of the 19th century they were taken out of the island for English aristocrats, as large-sized dogs with long wool entered the fashion. They retained the original name of the island.
Small dogs were rather miniature, possessed a short, waterproof coat, agility and energy. They loved water and had a unique scent. They were called in different ways: the Lesser of St. Johns, the Lesser of Newfoundlands, and, surprisingly, the researchers - Labradors.
Large dogs - Newfoundlands are still representatives of a fairly common breed, and small ones have become the founders of modern breeds of retrievers, including Labradors.
Unique qualities of Labradors - the ability to stay on the water and complaisant nature, noted athletes from England. When there was a fashion of hunting for birds from the family of pheasant, representatives of the Setter and Point breeds were often replaced with retrievers. But then nobody looked after the purity of the species, and the owners received offspring from individuals with short and long hair.
Since 1830, small dogs (St. John's, they are also Labradors) have been exported from the island to England for breeding as a separate breed. At that time, already some breeders began to adhere to certain rules, trying to preserve natural data. But many were engaged in experiments, reducing labradors to other representatives of breeds of retriever.
At the beginning of the century, Labradors could be seen at English exhibitions. At that time, the name of the retriever included several types of dogs - retrievers with long, short hair, dark chestnut retrievers and Norfolk, which had already disappeared. Later, the formation of individual breeds for each species occurred, and in 1903 a separate breed of Labrador Retriever was registered at the English Kennel Club.
For two decades, several large nurseries have been engaged in improving the breed, and their works are the appearance of modern Labrador Retrievers.

- light cream colors;
A small white spot in the chest area is allowed.
Character traits of Labrador Retrievers
Labradors are intelligent and very gifted dogs. Their keen sense of smell and love of apportionment allows the use of representatives of this breed for official work. Dogs are able to perform draft work, participate in hunting, search for prohibited and dangerous substances at customs points. From Labrador Retrievers, excellent rescuers are obtained in the mountains, on the water and in the usual area.
They are so balanced and calm that they can serve as a guide for blind people. According to statistics, this breed accounts for about 80% of all four-legged guides.
And the most important qualities - dogs are distinguished by reliability, loyalty and developed intelligence, which makes them consummate companions. Dogs are characterized by cheerfulness and goodwill. They are always ready for contact, but do not impose their society. Surprisingly delicately captured the mood of the owner and behave very delicately.
Labradors - excellent nannies, under their supervision, you can safely leave the children. These dogs are very calm and they are not touched by fuss, the presence of strangers, childish screams, squeals and other unforeseen situations. Having fallen from "unkind" hands to a caring family, pets recover very quickly and display exceptionally positive traits.
But there is one nuance in the nature of Labradors. They were withdrawn for a long time to work side by side with a person, so they experience loneliness quite sharply. Without proper attention and with prolonged loneliness, they can start behaving inappropriately or acquire bad habits, for example, can bark for a long time and monotonously. Owners should take into account that this is not "harmful", but a request, a pet's pet's request for help.
If the dog receives proper care and attention from the owner, then its behavior is almost exemplary. Naturally, we are talking about adult individuals, puppies are playful and lively creatures. Yes, future owners should be warned - the period of growing up with Labradors is quite long.
Passed socialization and training courses, Labradors can coexist peacefully with any other domestic animals. They are by nature very peaceful creatures and communication with their likes is a great pleasure.
Purebred representatives are omnivorous. In addition, they have a tendency to steal food. And other methods for extracting food (asking for eyes, paws on knees and other receivers) they use with success. Therefore, it is important for owners that they do not allow the dog to reach the remnants of food. Especially since labradors are prone to obesity.
A pet should be given a significant physical load, so that he does not get bored and does not look for "occupation" on his own. Labradors are not guards. Yes, they can rush to meet the people who come and loudly bark at the same time, but they do it out of good motives to greet the guests.
The intelligence and ingenuity of these dogs greatly facilitates the training process. They respond to any encouragement, be it a treat, a toy or a kind word. Train them should be started as early as possible, as they can quickly lose control.
Experts warn that dogs of such a complexion should be taught at an early age to walk on a leash, since subsequently retaining the pulling leash of a Labrador will be very difficult. These dogs clearly trace the desire to please the owner, so the owner only needs to apply the methods of sequential training.

Features of care and content
In the care labs do not require any special manipulation, but there are some nuances. For example, these dogs moult all year round, so regular combing of hair with a comb is necessary. Do this 2-3 times a week.
Love of the water element, with the usual walking, can lead to spontaneous bathing in puddles. After such walks, the pet should be washed under the shower and soaked with a lint-free cloth. The ingress of moisture in the ears can lead to the development of infectious ailments, so after water procedures, the ears should be wiped dry, and if necessary, use special hygiene products. Labradors also need a daily brushing of their teeth . Claws of the dog must be trimmed 3 times a month.
Choosing a place for a dimensional pet, it is worth considering that a dark corner, somewhere on the outskirts, the pet does not fit. Labradors like to be in the center of events, and they need a review of everything that happens in the apartment. They do not need any obstacles or houses, dogs are not timid dogs. They are quite suitable for a large bedding , on which the dog could stretch out to its full height.
Feed the dog follows meat, and a quarter of the diet should be cereals. It is also necessary to include additives useful for joints in the menu. When choosing ready-made diets, it is necessary to give preference to premium foods, super-premium , holistic for large dogs.
