Hemorrhoids in dogs

Based on scientific research, it is in the upright posture that the main cause of hemorrhoids lies, which means that only people can suffer from such an ailment. But in fact, it turns out that dogs can also have hemorrhoids. Neither the correct center of gravity, unlike the human one, nor the movement on four limbs, are one hundred percent insurance against this unpleasant disease. The reality is that, contrary to all scientific treatises, veterinarians still have to diagnose inflammation of the hemorrhoid in the dogs.

Why dogs develop hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids in dogs

This disease in pets is an expansion of the veins that surround the anus. A similar condition can be localized both on the inner part of the rectum (it is called internal hemorrhoids) and on the outside in the region of the anal ring.

The main causal development of this disease in animals is stagnation and, as a result, hemorrhoidal veins are not completely released. The veins are clogged, and their patency is significantly reduced. After there is a decrease in the tone of the venous walls and as a result the formation of seals - cones. If we talk about this in simple terms and compare the vessel with a rubber hose, then if one part of it becomes thinner, then under a certain pressure a thin wall will inflate like a bubble. Blood stagnating in a vein stretches its walls more and more, they become thinner and once, they can not withstand the load, which leads to the formation of a cone with blood contents.

Such a condition can arise for various reasons, whether it is, like a person's, a sedentary lifestyle, or food unsuitable for dogs. It is worth considering in more detail what leads to the appearance of hemorrhoids. The main reasons are as follows:

  • nutrition - non-compliance, overeating, foods high in fat;
  • excess weight;
  • excessive physical activity, heavy loads;
  • insufficient walks, lack of training and exercises on the site;
  • hormonal imbalance;
  • deficiency of vitamins and minerals ;
  • dry foods containing components that the dog cannot digest, such as legumes;
  • lack of balance of water and salt in the body, dehydration.

Experts recommend that those who are going to make a four-legged friend pay special attention to the selection of the puppy's diet. Stressful situations, a change in feeding time, transfer from one feed to another can cause water balance disruptions. In most cases, a change in hemorrhoidal nodes in puppies occurs during the active growth and formation of muscle and bone tissue, this period falls on the age from 4 to 7 months.

In addition, severe neglected helminthic invasions adversely affect the activity of the stomach and intestines and metabolic processes, and this, in turn, leads to the development of hemorrhoids.

Signs of the formation of hemorrhoids in dogs

Symptoms of hemorrhoids in dogs If we take for comparison the symptoms of hemorrhoids in different types of domestic animals, for example, dogs and cats, then in both cases exactly the same conditions appear without differences. Most often, dog owners identify the following:

  • feces change their consistency, become drier;
  • anal opening hyperemic and swollen;
  • clots of mucus and blood appear in the feces;
  • the animal can change gait.

In the latter case, the animal can rub back against hard surfaces, which in most cases is associated with the presence of helminth parasites. In fact, with hemorrhoids, the dog is thus trying to eliminate itchy sensations.

It is not enough just to suspect the presence of a disease in a pet, it is worth contacting specialists so that a complete diagnosis is made. Only an experienced veterinarian will be able to tell if the pet is disturbed by the inflammatory process in the hemorrhoidal veins, or if the reason lies in something else. After all, often hemorrhoids in dogs after research turn out to be a herniation, rectal prolapse or inflammation of the anal glands.

Dog hemorrhoids treatment

Upon closer examination of the methods of treating hemorrhoids in dogs, they, in fact, do not differ at all from those used for hemorrhoids in humans. Therapy is also based on the review and adjustment of the pet's diet:

  • products that provoke constipation are removed from the dog's menu;
  • fiber-rich foods are added, which have a beneficial effect on digestion;
  • preference is given to easily digestible dishes.

Such measures help rid the dog of difficult bowel movements and reduce the inflammatory process in the anus.

So that the dog does not suffer from constipation, you can regularly give her castor oil as an additive. The daily rate is calculated based on the weight of the pet.

To speed up the healing process, you need to often take the dog for long walks, visit special areas with him, where the pet could be active. When the dog moves, the body naturally stimulates the outflow of blood from the resulting hemorrhoids.

Dog hemorrhoids treatment

As for the medical treatment of the disease in dogs, the same drugs are used here as for the treatment of the disease in humans. To eliminate bleeding, hemostatic suppositories are placed on the pet - Relief, Procto-glivenol. To eliminate venous insufficiency, venotonics are prescribed - Detralex, Flebodia -600, Venarus. They must be given to the dog with food.

Rinsing and douching of the rectum with an enema with decoctions of medicinal herbs are useful, but not every dog will agree to such a procedure. But even in this case, the anus can be treated with useful solutions, hygiene in this case is very important! Contaminated inflamed areas can cause inflammation to spread to other areas.

Until now, among doctors, and not only, there are disputes in the effectiveness of folk recipes for hemorrhoids. But still, their correct application, subject to dosages and preparation rules, definitely gives positive results. Therefore, baths and tinctures for the disease can be used for pets.

The following herbs can be used to prepare baths for hemorrhoids - marigold flowers, burdock root, St. John's wort, yarrow, sage. The most powerful anti-inflammatory plant is chamomile.

Baths have several advantages over other treatments:

  • With hemorrhoids, cold baths are most often used (it should be calculated that the temperature of the solution should be 3-4 degrees lower than the body temperature of the pet), which significantly reduces edema and reduces hemorrhoids.
  • Almost no medicinal herbs have only one property - most of them act as antiseptics, hemostatic and painkillers, many of them contribute to the regeneration of damaged tissues. Such a set of actions allows you to quickly and without harm to the body, rid the body of the pet of the disease.

In the fight against hemorrhoids, sea buckthorn oil has proven itself well (experts recommend the use of a pharmacy to avoid the risks of penetration into the affected areas of bacteria). It is an excellent antiseptic and can quickly heal cracks in the hemorrhoidal veins. Using it is simple - soak a cotton swab in oil and place it in the dog’s anus. I must say that such a tool is especially effective at the beginning of the development of the disease.

In addition to drug therapy and folk remedies, sometimes you have to resort to surgical intervention. This usually happens in the later stages of the disease or in certain complications.

Most often, local anesthesia is used, skin and sections of the mucosa are excised from the diseased animal. If the pet is very anxious, aggressive, general anesthesia is possible.

The veterinarian pulls the base of the inflamed node and completely removes the focus of infection. If required, restorative therapy is used, but most often dispenses with it. With the right operation, the dog recovers quickly enough.

This method, although it has certain difficulties, completely protects the pet from relapses. Caring for the proper nutrition and activity of the pet, the owner of the dog will protect him from the occurrence of hemorrhoids.
