Alaskan Kli-Kai (Mini Huskies)

The Alaskan Kli-kai is a beautiful Husky the size of a small Spitz. Someone will say that this is impossible. However, not so long ago, by historical standards, such a breed also appeared - miniature funny dogs that look like sled dogs, but, of course, they are not. What motivated the breeders to breed this miracle, and did the Kli-Kai really become a mini-replica of the legendary northern dogs?

Where did the breed come from?

If you compare with the northern rocks, the Kli-kai breed is quite young. Her story begins in 1970, when the talented breeder Linda Spurlin decided to breed dogs that are husky, but have a different temperament and a much smaller size.

Alaskan Kli-Kai

At that time, there was a surge of interest in sled dogs, and many wanted to have these proud beauties. But not everyone had the opportunity to support such a large animal, requiring round-the-clock activity and having a rather capricious character. That is why Linda came up with the idea of creating a mini-version of the husky, but adapted to living in apartment conditions and less troublesome in its content.

Various breeds of sled dogs participated in the breeding process - Huskies , Alaskan Malamutes, Eskimo dogs and huskies. And by 1988, the world saw a pet of a completely new format - cli-kai. Having preserved the external data of the husky, Linde managed to significantly reduce the size of the dogs. How this happened remains a mystery to this day, but already at the end of the twentieth century, this breed was officially recognized by the Association of the rarest breeds.

Since their appearance, the Kli-kai have gained a lot of fans. Many dog lovers wanted to buy this beautiful miniature animal with a convivial character, so the breed has not faded since then, and every year it becomes more and more popular. According to reports, Alaskan clique puppies first appeared in Russia only in 2013.

Description breed Kli-Kai

Today, breed standards offer several variants of Alaskan Kli-kai, differing in size:

  • Standard - height at withers varies 38-43 cm, weight can reach ten kilograms.
  • Mini sizes vary between 33-38 cm, with a body weight of not more than 7 kg.
  • Toy (toy) - height should not exceed 33 cm, and the weight reaches 4.5 kg.

Dogs of this breed are distinguished by the following features:

  • The head is wedge-shaped, without additional lines and skin folds.
  • The muzzle has a somewhat elongated shape, it narrows closer to the nose.
  • It is obligatory to have a pronounced mask , its color contrasts with the color of other parts of the body.
  • Ears in a standing position, hanging ears - a defect for the breed.
  • Two-layer wool .
  • The tail , curled in the form of a ring and covered with thick hair, may lie on the pet's back, or on its side;

All these descriptions clearly repeat the characteristics of the northern sled dogs of the oldest breeds. But there are some distinctive features:

  • The clique has a powerful, strong lower jaw that does not protrude forward. The lips have black pigmentation, in dogs with a reddish-white color, they are liver-colored and should fit snugly together.
  • Tooth enamel is bright, white. According to the standard, the bite of the dog must be scissor-like, if it is straight, then this is considered a significant defect.
  • Eyes in dogs may have a different shape - oval, round, almond-shaped. Be sure to have a dark rim. The shades of the iris are quite diverse, but in most cases, the eyes of the cliques are brown, blue or amber. Often there are individuals with different eyes. Defects include dogs with “bulging” eyes, or disproportionately planted - far away or, on the contrary, close to each other.
  • The neck of the Kli-kai is arcuate, while in motion it is in an extended state.
  • Paws straight, thin, with strong bones, moderately apart. Pillows are thick, collected, elastic.
  • The entire body of the dog is proportional - the sternum is wide, the ribs are well developed, the stomach does not sag.

The breed is characterized by a rather thick coat with a dense uniform undercoat. There are several colors: white in combination with black, gray, red. And also there are black-and-white-red individuals.

The nature of the representatives of the breed Kli-Kai

Despite the obvious external signs, the similarity of the Huskies and the Kli-kai ends there. These miniature dogs have a completely different character, which has nothing to do with the temperament of real sled dogs.

Small, funny Kli-kai love active games, frolicking while walking is their favorite activity. Walking in nature for pets is a real holiday.

The nature of the Alaskan clique

The dog is a companionable, cheerful, good-natured, not tolerant of loneliness, therefore it is not recommended to bring an animal to those who can leave the house for a whole day.

The sociability of a clique is so pronounced that one can hear from a dog not just barking, but sounds similar to human speech. A "talk" dogs of this breed oh, how they love. Even after a short absence of the owner, upon returning, the pet will actively share the latest news, and song-speaking maxims may have a duration of 10 minutes or more.

Representatives of this breed in the family behave quite adequately, they can even be called obedient pets. But when dealing with outsiders show some distrust and caution.

Kli-kai are easily trained and can memorize and execute a mass of various commands. And besides, they get great pleasure from the learning process. They are perfectly adapted to living in apartment conditions, but this breed is also suitable for a country house.

Funny Alaskan Kli-Kai

It has long been noted that the conviviality and good nature of the clique-kay extends not only to a person, but also to other pets. They get along well with cats, dogs and other animals. Representatives of this breed simply adore children. No aggression - just unlimited devotion and excellent qualities of a nurse.

Many Alaskan Kli-kay owners have noticed that dogs have no behavioral flaws, which means that the breed is completely suitable for keeping in the family.

As for performance, the Kli-kai retained the quality of the guards. And if, by virtue of their small size, they cannot stop the robber on their own, then signaling the invasion of a stranger by bristling barking will be easy for them. But still the most optimal breed assignment is a surprisingly devoted, cheerful companion.

How much is a purebred puppy

Breeders control the purity of the breed, so in 8 months all puppies of the Cli-Kai are checked for compliance with generally accepted standards. The following possible defects are taken into account:

  • incorrectly positioned (reverse) mask on the face;
  • correctly set bite;
  • pronounced areas of wool with a dark or light color.

Pets that do not pass the test are rejected and subject to mandatory sterilization.

Mini Huskies are rare breeds, so buying such a puppy is not so easy. Moreover, there is a risk that the acquired pet may not fall under the breed standards at 8 months, because at an earlier age the defects are imperceptible.

If such difficulties do not frighten, and a decision is made to purchase a puppy, then you should look for a specialist who has knowledge of this breed. It will be better if he takes part in choosing a dog.

Given the rarity of the breed and the breeder's reverent attitude to selection, the price of Alaskan clique puppies is not affordable for everyone. One individual Kli-kai is estimated about 350 thousand rubles.

Alaskan Clique Care

This cute dog does not require special, any special means of care and a lot of time. He can take care of his beautiful fur coat on his own, as he has the feline ability to wash his face using his front paws.

Dog hair should be combed, but not often. Normally, once a week is enough, during the molting period, two or three times.

A clique has one indisputable advantage over other dogs - he has no specific smell and is very clean, so it’s enough to carry out water procedures two or three times a year.

Ears and eyes require regular checks for dirt and inflammation. Kli-kay claws should be trimmed once or twice a month using special tweezers.

Representatives of this breed love long runs and it is advisable to display them in places where you can fearlessly let the pet off the leash, without fear for its safety. This little naughty boy will be happy if the owner takes part in his games.
